Citizen Advocacy's Team 2016

Continuing Margie’s Legacy

This year to honour the memory of one of our biggest fundraisers, we would like to dedicate our fundraising efforts at Ottawa Race Weekend to Margie (Margaret) Cunningham.

Sadly, Margie passed away after a short illness on Sunday, March 8. Margie was matched through our Matching Program. She had a long-term friendship with Louise (1990) and she was also matched with Winn (2016). She was also an active member of our Consumers Advisory Committee for many years.

Margie was such an integral and beloved part of our community. She was one of our biggest supporters – the first one to volunteer to: help at fairs, agree to be featured in videos, give presentations and to help us raise funds. Ottawa Race Weekend was one of her favourite events. She loved nothing more than asking everyone she knew, including all the staff at Citizen Advocacy, to sponsor her to participate. She rarely missed a year and raised an average of $750 every year.

Her personality was such that she was one of the first people that staff asked to participate in promotional videos or be interviewed by local media. She was always surprised be asked and a little nervous, however, once in front of the cameras she relaxed and shone.

Please consider donating to our race weekend team Exit disclaimer to continue Margie’s wonderful legacy at Citizen Advocacy.

Register for Ottawa Race Weekend and be part of the Citizen Advocacy Team!

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation new registrations for Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend and Scotiabank Ottawa Marathon have been suspended. There has been no decision to cancel or postpone this event at this time; although for public health reasons this decision may change based on the every changing COVID-19 response.

To ensure the health and safety of our community and racers we will be postponing our launch party this year until further notice.

For years the Citizen Advocacy team has raised critical funds while promoting inclusion. This year will be no different. In fact is even more crucial this year as opportunities to raise funds are impacted by the response of our community to keep everyone safe. While we do not yet know what the race weekend will look like, we know we can continue to promote the work CA is doing and raise funds in memory of dear Friend, Margie. We hope you will consider donating to the CA team (add a note when you do that it is in memory of Margie). We encourage anyone who is interested in participating and raising funds to reach out to Corey at cfortier@citizenadvocacy.org or 613-761-9522 ext.250 for a pledge form.
